HJS leads a cross-party call for proscription of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)

The Henry Jackson Society, receiving coverage in The Daily Telegraph, has once again called on Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to take decisive action by designating Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organisation.

In a powerful display of cross-party resolve, over 45 MPs, peers, and respected public figures have united to sign an open letter urging the Prime Minister to act swiftly against the IRGC’s growing menace. The signatories include prominent figures including Sir Richard Dearlove, former head of MI6. This united front underscores the urgency of confronting a threat that transcends political boundaries.

The letter, organised by the Communications and Policy Team at HJS, lays bare the ineffectiveness of current sanctions in curbing the IRGC’s destabilising activities. Exploiting loopholes and evading enforcement mechanisms, the IRGC continues to expand its malign influence. Proscribing the group would not only criminalise support for its operations but also empower UK authorities to seize its assets and dismantle its networks within Britain.

The IRGC is the architect of many of the world’s most dangerous terrorist campaigns, including supporting the October 7th attack. It continues to operate with impunity, spreading global terror and violence. By proscribing the group, the UK can take a vital step in protecting its citizens and send a clear message that terrorism will not be tolerated. This is not just a national security issue, but a moral imperative.
