Somaliland and the Red Sea Corridor
Somaliland and the Red Sea Corridor

Join us for the launch of a major new report examining one of the most overlooked strategic questions facing British foreign policy: should the United Kingdom recognise Somaliland? Drawing on field research in Somaliland and extensive analysis of security, trade and geopolitics in the Horn of Africa, the report argues that the debate is no longer simply about diplomatic recognition. It is about the future of the Red Sea corridor, the security of global trade routes, growing competition from China and Türkiye, and Britain’s role in a region of increasing strategic importance. At a time when the Red Sea has become a focal point of international instability, this event will explore whether UK policy reflects the realities on the ground and what recognition of Somaliland could mean for British interests, regional security and the wider international order.
