Religious Diversity in the United Kingdom's Parliamentary Constituencies 2024

Following the Henry Jackson Society's previous 2015 report, which found that minority religions could be crucial in influencing both the 2015 electoral result and the future British political landscape, the Society, in association with Electoral Calculus, has created a new interactive map to explore the latest data on religious diversity in the United Kingdom and its potential political impact.

The new map shows the new parliamentary constituency boundaries agreed in 2023, as well as providing a region-level overview. It displays data on religious diversity based on the most recent census from 2021, as well as offering a view of the previous census data from 2011 for comparison.

Religious affiliation "heat maps" show stronger colours where a particular religion has more followers, and where those of no religion exist in greater numbers. A combined view shows which faith group has the largest number of followers in each constituency or region. A main minority view reveals which of the minority religions (excluding Christianity and those of no religion) has the most followers. A pop-up box on each constituency offers an overview of its four largest faith groups and the opportunity to click through for a more detailed breakdown.

Further views indicate: how political parties would have fared on the new constituency boundaries in 2019; which party is predicted to win a seat in the upcoming general election; and what are the challenger parties predicted to come in second place.

Accompanying the map is an interactive table of constituencies, showing their religious diversity, which can be sorted by high or low levels of membership of specific religions.

There is also a detailed breakdown for each seat of its religious diversity data, including at ward level.

The Henry Jackson Society has prepared a report analysing the latest data.
