The North Korean talks seem to be an empty charade aimed at boosting both leaders.
We knew it would be meaningless, but who knew it would be this meaningless?
The first indicator was probably when North Korean leader Kim Jung-un set a seven-hour deadline to leave Singapore from when his meeting with the US president was to begin. Ever aware of face, President Trump responded by moving up his departure date.
Already, it appeared as if neither side was willing to spend what time necessary to get a deal; already it appeared – despite promises – that this was not to be an actual negotiation, but rather to be a beginning step. While one is in favour of beginning steps and all they entail, the problem is that there have been a great many “beginning steps” with North Korea.
