‘Spooky’ number of Saudi diplomats raises questions

There are 33 Saudi diplomats working in Dublin, compared with 24 for the UK and 21 for the US, despite both those countries having significantly more citizens and deeper trade links with Ireland.

The Saudi diplomats work in both their country’s embassy on Fitzwilliam Square and in its cultural bureau on Sheriff Street. The Saudis’ defence attaché for Ireland is based in London, bringing the total number of staff it assigns to 33. There were 1,900 Saudi citizens living in Ireland, according to the 2016 census.
