Low-tech Attacks a Real Threat

Compared to last year, when Britain suffered a peak in Islamist terrorism, 2018 had looked much better, with our security services foiling each plot that arose.

However, the apparent attack in Westminster is a reminder that the threat from lone individuals carrying out low-tech terror with cars and vans has not gone away. Indeed, in 2017 there was a dramatic rise in the number of incidents using vehicles. Once again, Parliament is the target of those seeking to overturn our way of life.

In this latest incident the car quickly crashed into a protective barrier that reduced casualties. Still, putting up barriers around our buildings is no long-term solution and the threat from highly radicalised and extreme individuals using vehicles remain real.
