Citizenship Stripping Is Not The Only Way To Deal With British Fighters Returning From Islamic State

It should come as no surprise that the recent decision to strip Jack Letts of his British citizenship has re-fueled the debate on how to prevent foreign fighters from Islamic State returning to the United Kingdom, and what to do with them if they present themselves at a foreign consulate or at the borders of our country.

It is important to remember that citizenship stripping is just one of the many tools available to the Home Secretary to prevent individuals who are not conducive to the public good from entering the United Kingdom. In the realm of counter-terrorism, citizenship stripping has been used many times: according to publicly available statistics, at least 150 people have been subject to the measure since 2010.
