For all the changes that continue to buffet the Middle East, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict remains bedevilled by an intractable status quo. Though a solution based upon the establishment of two separate states remains the bedrock of the international community’s diplomatic efforts, repeated efforts to bring about this reality have encountered resistance from a wide range of actors on the ground. As a result, confidence in the prospect of a two-state solution bringing an end to the conflict has waned, giving rise to a search for alternative approaches. Benjamin Anthony and Brigadier General Amir Avivi (Res.) will address these themes in more detail, outlining what they see as the strategic shortcomings of the traditional two-state paradigm, and the dangers of perpetuating the status quo. They will also detail their ‘New State Solution’ initiative, which is designed to break the current deadlock.
By kind invitation of The Baroness Deech DBE, The Henry Jackson Society is delighted to invite you to an event with Benjamin Anthony and Brigadier General Amir Avivi for an analysis of the New State Solution; a conflict-ending alternative to end the status quo and the gridlock of the Israeli-Palestine conflict.
Benjamin Anthony is the founder of Our Soldiers Speak, a not-for-profit NGO that provides briefings and analysis on the challenges faced by the Israel Defense Forces in asymmetrical combat situations. Benjamin continues to serve on an annual basis in the Israeli Defence Forces, as a combat reservist. He is a veteran of the Second Lebanon War (2006), as well as two major encounters in the Gaza Strip: Operation Pillar of Defense (2012), and Operation Protective Edge (2014).
Brigadier-General Amir Avivi, is a Senior Policy Advisor with the Miryam Institute. He has over thirty years of experience with the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), previously serving as Head of the Auditing and Consulting Department. Throughout his career, he also filled various command positions in the Corps of Engineers, and was the aid-de-camp for the Chief of the General Staff of the IDF.
