On the eve of president Trump’s inauguration, an already precarious Middle East was descending deeper into crisis. President Obama had often complained of the situation that he inherited in the in the region. Yet arguably the Middle East that Trump now faces is dramatically more challenging, with a series of multifaceted conflicts poised to escalate further. From a considerably emboldened Iran and a growing Russian presence in Syria, to a humanitarian crisis in Yemen and a threatened Saudi Arabia increasingly ready to flex its muscle in the region. Whether or not the Obama doctrine had been coherent or comprehensive, in the Middle East it had comprehensively failed. Yet, during the presidential campaign, Trump had given only limited indication of what his own approach might consist of.

By kind invitation of Lord Trimble, The Henry Jackson Society is delighted to invite you to an event with Dov Zakheim, Former US Under Secretary of Defense, who will explore the developments of recent US National Security Policy, under perhaps, one of the most unpredictable Presidents in modern history.
