Sensitive personal data at risk as UK firms bought up by China, security experts warn

Britons’ personal data could be trawled by Beijing’s spies as the UK sells off sensitive, high-tech industry to Chinese investment, a security think tanks warns on Tuesday.

Chinese state-owned businesses pouring billions into key industries such as power may also be buying UK political leverage to use in a crisis, the Henry Jackson Society suggests.

The society says concern is now so high about Chinese investors’ high-tech shopping spree that a new review body is needed to check the national security risks of their critical infrastructure buys.
