As British military personnel are deployed back to Afghanistan’s Helmand Province following Taliban gains, The Henry Jackson Society says this new spate of violence highlights the need to get serious about tackling radical Islam abroad.

Executive Director Dr Alan Mendoza said: “The Taliban gaining ground and now taking Sangin – where so many British military personnel lost their lives – illustrates the difficulty of combating the growing and evolving threat of radical Islam.

“We took our eye off the ball thinking the job had been completed when it clearly hadn’t. Our leaders will need to consider the realities of the long battle against this enemy in all its forms worldwide – whether the Taliban in Afghanistan/Pakistan or Islamic State in Iraq/Syria.”
