Spain lets Russian navy use its port: Madrid accused of hypocrisy after allowing three ships to dock at territories in North Africa

HJS Political Director Davis Lewin has commented on reports that Spain has allowed three Russian naval vessels to dock in the ports of their North African territories, at a time of great tension between Moscow and the Alliance. “NATO has always sought cooperation with a responsible Russia to further post-Cold War stability in Europe and wider afield,” he said. “Given Vladimir Putin’s illegal aggression against the people of the Ukraine however, this cooperation must be subject to review. This should include arrangements between member countries and Russia such as Russian Warships docking in Ceuta. NATO is designed to protect us from exactly this menace. Its posture at this time should sharply remind Mr Putin about the costs of aggression against democratic neighbours.’
